Susan Borawski

Susan Borawski is personal training certified through the nationally accredited NETA. She is also CPR and AED certified. She has been teaching aerobics for over 10 years and has taught Totally Toning for five of them. In her spare time, she is an avid runner and coaches the Kennedy Catholic Cross Country Team. Sue teaches running classes seasonally at the YMCA. Susan brings a high energy to her classes and is an excellent motivator to help you meet your fitness goals.

Heather Gill

Heather Gill teaches a variety of classes including step aerobics and cardio sculpting classes. She knows how to get your heart pumping with fun and easy to learn step routines. Heather is YMCA certified to teach aerobics. She is also CPR and AED certified.

Phyllis Mammarelli

Phyllis is the Senior and SilverSneaker® Advisor at the YMCA, an aerobic instructor and personal trainer certified by National Accredited NETA. She also is certified in senior fitness testing. Phyllis has been teaching classes for 6 years. Phyllis also teaches balance classes and Senior Strength and Stride. Phyllis has a passion for fitness and enjoys the opportunity to work with people to build up their cardiovascular system and respiratory endurance.

Debbie Wasko

Debbie Wasko is a graduate from Youngstown State University with a degree in Elementary Education. She earned her masters degree from Westminster College. Debbie is a retired teacher from Sharon City School district, where she taught more than 31 years. She is a certified CPR/AED and SilverSneakers Instructor. Debbie and her Husband, Paul, are proud parents of Kelly and Paul Jr. and are extremely thrilled with their new granddaughter Lilly Ann Newton.

Karen Elder

Karen Elder is a proud mother of three successful children, and grandmother of seven. Dancing is Karen’s passion and God given talent. She has been teaching many styles of dance since 1980. Among the styles are line dancing, country western couples, basic ballroom and clogging. She has competed in clogging taking home first, second and third place ribbons. She recently completed Rhythm Ballroom. Karen and her partner took home three first place positions, which is the number of dances they competed in. Dancing is not only great exercise for our bodies, but because of the fellowship we gain from our dancing friends, it can be medicine for our souls.

Lene Axelson

Lene Axelson has been part of the YMCA staff since January 2009. She is a certified CPR/AED and Silver Sneakers instructor. Her certifications include Yoga, Stretch I and Yoga Stretch II and in the near future also Muscular Strength and Range of Movement. She feels the classes are a good way for seniors to combine Fitness – Fun – Friends. Lene teaches Yoga Stretch on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11am-11:45am.

Melissa Evans

Melissa Evans has been with the Shenango Valley YMCA since 2008. She is certified through the National Trainers Association in Group Fitness with additional specialty certification and advanced training in Yoga instruction. She is very dedicated to helping people of all fitness levels obtain empowerment and good health through physical activity. When she’s not teaching yoga, Melissa enjoys maintaining an active lifestyle with her husband and three children.
